Tour: The classic Randonneur
Tour - Touring bike with lugged frame and Shimano 105 Group

Tour white - standard spec
File under: Touring, Urban, Baggage
It’s not about something new, it’s not about fashion or “this years model”, it’s about “tried and trusty, safe and serious”. This frame is not what people call “funky”, but it’ll take you to hell and back, while carrying everything you need to spend some time there. The frames are not made of Alloy or Carbon, but of Allegro ChroMoly steel, a material that will not let you down. The lugged frame is how they built frames back in the old days, back when men were men. This lugged ChroMoly frame has flex, but is still stiff enough to go everywhere you want to go.
For this bike say “comfortable” and “enduring” and it does that fully loaded. It’s got eyelets all over the place and comes with a complete Shimano 105 group. It’s a traditional Radonneur bike and you won’t see the “Superlite” sign above it in the store, but that’s not what we were trying to do. The job at hand was to fit like a glove and that’s the way we build bikes. Richard Ayling has been twiddling with the geometry for years now and he’ll tell you, he’s almost there. But you know that designers never say “finished”!
Tour riders...
...are muesli-munching fitness freaks, with Ortlieb bags and racks to put them on, round the world roadies with legs of steel and hearts of gold, with GPS cell phones and a direct link to Google Maps, dreaming of the Himalayas and a sponsoring deal with Shimano and Suunto, he rides to work through wind and weather, leaving his oilskins dripping in the lobby, his idea of fun is a 14 day trip through the Scottish Highlands where it only stops raining when he sleeps. The rest of us can only pay our respects...
And any one who wants to ride hard, far and fast.
