Jumping to new heights with the Dragons
Artland Dragons-Star Adam Chubb - All-Star on a BiGBOY
2,08m and every door is too small. It wasn't always clear that Adan Chubb would play basketbal professionally. At University he was a better high jumper, his record of 2.20m was a sensation at the Penn State University. Luckily (for us) he chose Basketball. The 26 year old from Harrisberg, Pennsylvania is now in his third year in Germany. After playing in Korea for a year, he played in Gießen and Bremerhaven before signing a two year contract in Quakenbrück. He's really rocking the Basketball Bundeslige this year and has even scored 30 points in one game in the ULEB-Cup. My first meeting with him was at the local Quakenbrück Ice-Cream-Cafe where he was drinking his Cappuchino and reading a book (!).

ADAM CHUBB: High Jumping at College (PHOTOs Stolen from the Daily Pennsylvanian. Forgive us guys!)
Adam loves bikes as well. After coming to Quakenbrück he noticed almost everybody gets around on bike here and it seemed strange to drive the car to practice when the bike is so easy. A short ride through the park and you're there. Coach Fleming sent him to us, to get fitted up with a bike. His 72cm frame is a big one. We built two of them, one for Adam and one for his Center friend Darius (D) Hall. D's bike you can see here. The belt in the picture is actually a fine, fine lock from ABUS. After waiting for the perfect bike, he didn't want to lose it and bought the lock as well. I didn't tell him there were only about ten people in Quakenbrück that could ever ride this bike and that's the rest of his team! They'd be the main suspects if it got stolen ;>)

ADAM CHUBB: left with BigBOY aND right with easy points (phOTO ROLF KAMPER)
Adam's a big sports fan. On top of his Basketball and Athletic talents, he was also a pretty good Soccer player. After being taken to a German Bundesliga game, he's know a big Werden Bremen fan. You can see him on Champions League evenings watching the games on TV at our local Pizza and Pasta place "Da Seba". Usually a couple of the other guys will watch with him as well. With his BiGBOY, Adam has become a focal part of Quakenbrück: Now some of his colleagues on the team are getting the bug. Now with Rich Melzer, Chad Prewitt and Dirk Mädrich also on bikes, Coach Chris Fleming (Cannondale MTB with an Xtracycle) has had to put up a sign saying "All bikes to be parked outside the gym..."
If the Dragons are going to go one better than last year (Runners-Up in the Championship) then it's a case of "BiGBOYs win the League" and of course Adam Chubb (14 points per game) is doing his best to achieve that goal. Go Dragons Go!
