Hello 2009!
We say a hearty welcome to a new USED Newsletter, the first in 2009, a year that people claim will be financially the "worst since the war!". We say "au contraire!" - 2009 will be a great year for bikes. Bike 2009 will be a year of reason and rationality, rolling out the red carpet in welcome for a better and more sustainable world. Of course, if you just lost millions (billions?) as your financial house of cards plunged to the ground and your only hope is that your Government will bail you out, then i guess your expectations of 2009 will be pretty low, but for the rest of us - we're going to ride. If you have ever read our Power of USED manifesto, you will know where we stand. We are looking for our own rhythm and destiny and will not be jamming with Nero, while Rome is burning...

USED Urban Steel Bikes: At long last the initial batch of bikes are here. They have had their first photo shooting and are ready to hit the road. The catalogue is finished. The bikes are really good, elegant, functional and stylish at the same time, with lots of little details to discover, like the beautiful lugs on the Tour and Track bikes. Richard Ayling from Allegro has done a great job of combining design with a good spec. Now we have to get the bikes into the stores as soon as possible. There are 5 different models. Singlespeed and Fixed Gear bikes, a MTB for the city, a real trucker of a bike (HHT) and a Tour bike in Randonneur style. Just find your own poison. All these bikes have a timeless design and a high-quality ChroMoly frame and fork - designed in Melbourne, Australia. Come on in and be convinced!

Catalogue: Here is the new USED Steel Bike online catalogue. We use Issuu, a new online service, that gives magazines, catalogues etc. the perfect stage. Issuu is the best. The conversion of your pdf is easy and the quality is excellent. You can flick pages and we have links in the catalogue to take you further if you so wish, and even music to listen to when you are browsing. This is the future of publishing. USED - Web 2.0 - Twitter: USED and the the age of Social Networking. I read an article from Carlton Reid (from Bike Biz in the UK) about Social Networking and the bike industry. I think this kind of promotion is very good for small companies like USED to spread the message about what we do. That brings us to Twitter, which is a Micro-Blogging service. In 140 characters., you can send messages that are read by people "following you". You in turn follow the "updates" or "tweets" from these people or others. Film stars, magazines, hotels etc. are all discovering Twitter. The system is very instant, the message reduced to what is needed without wasting too much time. We have been using Twitter for two months now and have about 60 people following us (mainly bike people and mostly in English) and even Richard Branson checks out what USED is saying! USED - Web 2.0 - Blog: The USED blog is up and running. We have articles about the bike business, of course, but also about the environment and art (especially music). It's a colourful mixture of urban mobility, opinion, vision and art. We hope you will enjoy it.
